500 SQFT CHICAGO STUDIO LAYOUT

During the Spring of 2022, one of my friends just graduated with her Master's Degree and accepted a job in Downtown Chicago. She'd been scouring apartments for weeks; however, every apartment she came across was super small and super expensive. When she had finally chosen one, she was worried about the space available so he asked me for some help to create a true-to-scale layout of her 500 SQFT studio apartment and model in some furniture to see how much space was available in order to avoid issues such as overcrowding and blocked walkways.

For this mini project, I designed the rough layout of her apartment using the blueprints and dimensions her landlord provided. Since this was purely to determine how much space would be in the living area, I did not model the bathroom, laundry room, and kitchen. Two of her biggest concerns were the size of the bed and desk. I modeled the bed frame, mattress, and two desks that she had chosen from IKEA. These were pretty simple since IKEA had most of the dimensions on its website.
